Areas of Expertise

Six areas of care, hip to ground. Open a row to read what it involves and the procedures Dr Neptune performs.

Hip Surgery Ball & Socket

Hip Surgery

The hip is a ball-and-socket joint and when its structures are damaged, worn down, or unstable, movement becomes painful and limited. Hip surgery may be performed to repair, replace, or improve the function of the hip joint.

Dr Neptune regularly performs the following surgeries for hip repair or replacement, using a mix of navigation assisted and conventional surgery:

Procedures

Knee surgery may be required to address structural damage to the knee due to injury, mechanical issues, or persistent pain caused by conditions such as advanced arthritis.

Dr Neptune specialises in the range of knee surgeries, which include:
Foot and Ankle Surgery

Surgery for the foot and ankle may be required for a number of reasons, which include instability and ligament damage, fractures that will not heal without surgery, torn tendons, advanced arthritis, chronic infections and wounds, and structural deformities that worsen over time.

Dr Neptune specialises in the following surgeries for foot and ankle conditions and injuries:

  • Hindfoot: Ankle Arthritis — Fusions, Total Ankle Replacement
  • Midfoot: Cavovarus, Pes Planus
  • Forefoot: Bunions, Great Toe Osteoarthritis, Lesser toe deformities
Paediatric Orthopaedics

Children’s bones, muscles, and alignment change rapidly as they grow.

For this reason an Orthopaedic Surgeon must consider not just the current problem, but how the child will develop over the next several years. Conditions requiring Orthopaedic care in children can also differ greatly from those that affect adults.

Dr Neptune focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal conditions in children and adolescents. This includes:

Limb Lengthening & Deformity Correction

Limb Lengthening is a controlled process in which a bone is surgically cut (osteotomy) and then slowly separated so new bone grows in the gap. This natural bone regeneration process is called Distraction Osteogenesis.

Limb Lengthening may be required to address:

  •    Limb length discrepancy (one leg shorter than the other)
  •    Congenital conditions (e.g., fibular hemimelia, congenital short femur)
  •    Growth plate injuries leading to shortening
  •    Fractures that have healed in a shortened position
  •    Posttumouror after bone loss from infection

Dr Neptune performs limb lengthening surgery for both adult and paediatric patients.

Deformity Correction is surgery is undertaken to realign a bone that is angled, rotated, or twisted incorrectly. Deformities can be present from birth or may be the result of injury or disease.

Some common types of deformities include:

  • Angular: Varus (bowing), Valgus (knock-knee), Procurvatum/recurvatum (forward/backward angulation)
  • Rotational: Inward or outward twisting
  • Translation: Bone shifted sideways
  • Complex/multi-plane deformities: Involving more than one of the above
Trauma Management

Trauma Management encompasses the assessment, treatment, and ongoing care of injuries resulting from accidents or sudden events. This often involves surgical intervention for fractures or joint injuries, followed by rehabilitation to optimise healing and regain mobility.
